My Shiny Teeth and Me

Today the boys both went to the dentist...John's 6th time and Jacob's 1st. This was a GREAT visit...totally makes up for the 4 year old check up last week :) Every time we've gone to the dentist in the past with John, he bit someone...usually the dentist. But we finally found a gem of a pediatric dentist. The last time we went, John let her look in his mouth and just count his teeth...that was it. He did bite her, but not as bad as the last pediatric dentist we went to. Today however, he insisted that Jacob go first (quite the gentlemen..."I'll see if they torture my baby brother first and then decide if I'll cooperate"). So Jacob did and the hygenist played her part so well. She made Jacob's job of sitting in the chair and playing with all the tools look like a kid in a candy store. John was even starting to get upset that it wasn't his turn yet. So when his turn came, he sat in the chair and did EVERYTHING. They even got X-rays this time!! He's got great teeth...no cavities..."and it didn't even hurt!" Jacob's teeth look great too...no chipped teeth so far (knock on wood). We did learn that he has an attached upper lip frenulum, so we're trying to figure out what to do about that. That does explain A LOT about why we had so much difficulty breastfeeding, the big gap between his front two teeth and why he doesn't like to use a straw. The biggest concern is it affecting his speech and also causing orthodontic problems. Luckily we'll be going to see the ENT in a few weeks and they're the ones that do the frenectomy, so we'll see how that goes. But, all in all, it was a great visit and the boys seem to be looking forward to their next visit.
