Last Friday with the Labor Day weekend, Mark and I had this great idea to take the boys camping while it wasn't TOO hot (hah!) and before football season started. So, we booked a site at
Inks Lake State Park for Friday night...beautiful place! We even purchased a bigger tent off craigslist fearing our little dome tent might be a little tight for 2 adults and 2 squirrely boys hopped up on s'mores. I'll just start by saying it has not rained AT ALL this summer in our area! We had just gotten to our site, paid and were trying to set up the tent and get the fire started when we heard some rumbles and saw a cloud approaching. Thinking we would probably just get a sprinkle (as the weather has been teasing us with rain all summer), we continued in our efforts to set up camp...however quickly realized that we were probably going to get more than a sprinkle as the rumbles became quite loud (enough so that John covered his ears and face and crawled under the picnic table) and the wind suddenly got really cold (Never a good sign in Texas when you go from over 90 degrees to 70 degrees in a matter of minutes). We decided to bail on the fire and at least get all our things loaded back into the suburban so they didn't get totally wet. As soon as the boys were loaded up, the sky opened up. We need the rain, but it could have waited 24 hours!!! It wasn't a total waste, we did find a great little burger place, appropriately named
Storm's Great Hamburgers. After we finished eating we decided to bail and head home. Of course not a drop fell at our house. We had great hamburgers and shakes, John and Jacob both got absolutely filthy in the 45 minutes we were outside and Jacob encountered his first cactus (which we are still getting out of his hand). We shall try again!!

Take this as a lesson--man was not meant to sleep outside. It's unnatural.
