Wipe Out!

Today John let me know that he was having a hard day. It was a day for me where you sit and listen to your child and try not to smile because they are so blasted cute and innocent but they are so sad. It began well with a play date with his best bud from down the street. BUT, during a droid army attack, his double light saber was fatally wounded (I'm still trying to work the magic of the electrical tape). After the play date, we were walking his buddy home and John totally ate it on the cement in a neighbors driveway. I knew it was bad before it even happened with the velocity he was traveling and the angle of the cement...it was bad! Instantly the screams began and as Jacob and I made our way to him, we noticed the scraped knees...just that fun top layer of skin right off. He did not want to walk the rest of the way, so being 6 months pregnant, I picked his 40 lbs up and carried him and Jacob back home. We assessed the damage and used our best bandages. After we got things calmed down a bit & tears wiped away John told me this:

"Mom, I'm so sad they chose to use cement for their driveway."

Looking at that freckled nose and big green, teary eyes, I was sad the neighbors wanted a cement driveway too. Next time we buy a house, we'll look for neighbors with dirt driveways.

I can't believe how much John looks like Mark in that picture. I used to get that exact look from him years ago when we were all crowded around the bathroom mirror, getting ready for bed.
