Well today I had just told one of my friends that we were getting excited to celebrate Jacob's 1st birthday...more for us than him b/c we made it and he is a strong, healthy, happy boy! And this afternoon, I left the room for 2 minutes and returned to find him chewing on a battery. I found the source of the battery, 1 other battery and the battery door (with the 'child-proof' screw intact). The other battery's location eluded me for about 5 minutes before I called the pediatrician and poison control. They instructed me to go to the hospital to have X-rays done to make sure the battery wasn't stuck in his throat. If it wasn't stuck, then I would just have to go poopy diving for the next week or so until it turned up. So, a hospital visit co-pay, 2 x-rays and several 'shame-shame' looks later, we determined that he had not swallowed the battery and that it was still lurking in my house. We returned home, the boys hit the hay and I began tearing the house apart looking for the infamous 3rd battery. Within a couple minutes I found it tucked neatly underneath the leg of one of Jacob's toys.
On the positive, Jacob said his first word I think...it was "Yea!!" The new hospital by our house has a "child life specialist" in the ER whose job it is to sit with you and play with your child while you wait. She brought us some bubbles to play with and every time we blew the bubbles, Jacob would shriek and say "yea!" It was cute!! She did tell me that I should get him into TV commercials or advertising b/c he was so cute, charming and personable.
Additionally, one of the mom's of John's classmates (a girl) at preschool works in the ER there as a nurse. I learned that apparently John has a girlfriend...which is just scary yet cute. I quizzed him on this subject when we got home and John said, "No mom, I don't have any girlfriends. You're my girlfriend." Good answer young man!!! ;)
